ALEX BECKER: PROJECT ARCHITECT

Alex is a registered professional architect. He has a Master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Pretoria.

His Master's thesis explored architecture as a tool for empowering and enabling adolescents living in Mamelodi township, Pretoria. He is passionate about engaging with underprivileged communities, particularly the youth.  After completing his post-graduate studies in 2014 he decided to take a break from architecture and pursued another one of his passions - graphic design. He moved to LIV Village, a home for orphaned and vulnerable children, situated near Durban, where he joined the marketing team.  The founder of CTA+MAP who designed a few buildings at LIV lured him back to architecture. He joined the firm where he gained a wealth of experience working on luxury residences and commercial buildings throughout KZN's north coast.  He moved to Cape Town in 2017 and joined Violence Prevention through Urban Upgrading (VPUU) on a year-long contract.

He joined Open City in May 2018 as project architect.
